Mr Newman
graduated in Medicine from Manchester University in 1968. In 1973 he
became a fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons and obtained his M.D.
in 1977.

He completed his Higher Surgical Training and his surgical
expertise as a General Surgeon covered all aspects of gastrointestinal
and vascular surgery. Mr Newman worked as an NHS Consultant General Surgeon
at the Royal Bolton Hospital.
In addition to his NHS appointments he
worked privately at numerous hospitals in the North West of England.
During his surgical career, Mr Newman has presented papers at national
and international meetings. He has contributed clinically to many surgical
advances and has trained many surgeons in new clinical procedures.
Mr
Newman was a pioneer of surgical stapling and carried out some of the
first low colorectal anastamosis with the ‘Russian Gun’
which
he introduced to the UK. He also made with Prof. T.V. Taylor, the pioneering
intragastric balloons for morbid obesity.
Since resigning from the NHS
he has concentrated his work on non-invasive and minimally invasive day
surgery. Mr Newman developed thermocoagulation (Veinwave) technique to
treat leg spider veins, facial veins and rosacea, and has practically
trained surgeons in the UK, Europe, and S.E. Asia in these techniques. |
