They can develop anywhere on the body but often on the face, nose, cheeks, and chin. On the legs they are commonly on the upper thigh and around the knee and ankles.

Is this laser treatment?

No. At Dr Newmans Clinic we do not use laser surgery for any skin conditions. Veinwave is thermocoagulation and works in a similar way to a microwave. Laser treatment is not particularly beneficial to leg veins and many face veins, especially those located around the nose.

Laser treatment failed - will this treatment work?

We see a considerable number of patients who have had failed laser treatment and not seen the results they wanted. We spend a lot of time correcting unsuccessful thread vein removal procedures.

How long will my appointment take?

We ask patients to allow up to 30 minutes for an appointment. Treatments are not usually carried out on the same day as a consultation. We ask that you arrive in good time for your appointment.

Could you guide me on prices?

The initial step, your consultation, is imperative for the doctor to examine you to determine the best method of treatment and if any preparation that may be advised prior to any treatment. How many treatments will I need?

This will depend on the severity of the area and will be discussed during your consultation. As a guide, faces normally require 1-3 treatments. Leg veins tend to require 3-4 treatments. In some cases we are able to treat facial veins in just one session. We normally conclude your treatment with a review session once all veins have been treated.

How long do I need between treatments?

Typically 6-8 weeks.

Are the microwaves used in the treatment safe?

Yes. The microwaves penetrate the tissue approximately 0.5mm - 2mm at the most, which does not have any adverse effects. The safety of our patients is our first priority and we comply with strict regulations and government legislation in order to operate. All of our doctors are fully trained.

Will the treatment hurt?

Everyone has different pain thresholds so what may seem totally painless for some may cause some discomfort for others. Our patients have informed us that thermocoagulation treatment is like having a hair pulled out, and is far less painful than laser or IPL treatments. Leg conditions may require sclerotherapy, where a saline solution is injected into the veins and light pressure dressings are applied, and this is very well tolerated. For some patients, the area treated may be red directly following a treatment, but our doctors will be able to advise at your appointment how long until they expect this to calm. Our treatments are referred to as 'walk-in walk-out procedures’.

How can I pay?

Can I apply make-up the same day as receiving treatment?

Ideally no make-up should be applied for the remainder of the day following treatment, but can be used if necessary. Please try to attend without make-up pre treatment although it can of course removed at the clinic.

What should I wear?

Treatment will require you to lie flat out on a treatment couch, so please wear clothes that you will feel comfortable in to adopt this position. If Injection Compression Sclerotherapy is required for leg treatment we would advise that you wear trousers or a long skirt to cover the dressings which will be taped to the skin to secure the injected solution. We will advise on aftercare at your consultation.

Can I go in the sun afterwards?

Yes it is fine to go in the sun, however, we do advise wearing a sun cream and would recommend Nivea Sun Block for Kids SPF30.
