Treatment Quality

NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) describe best practice for varicose vein treatment in 3 quality statements. UK Vein Clinic care pathway incorporates all NICE quality guidelines.

NICE recommend the use of a specialist vascular service. Symptoms are likely to continue unless treated, but in some cases will lead to further complications such as bleeding, skin damage and even ulceration.  Vein disease affects many of us, especially as we get older. Treatment can reduce symptoms, improve quality of life and reduce progress of the disease.

NICE make clear that a consultation should includes a non-invasive scan using duplex ultrasound.  A specialist vascular sonographer should complete this scan and diagnostic.

Endothermal ablation or ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy are preferred treatment solutions.  These methods are minimally invasive. They ensure a more rapid recovery and lower risks when compared to traditional hospital-based methods.

UK Vein Clinic use EVRF (endovenous radiofrequency ablation, to remove the varicose vein.  The Rassmussen study in the British Journal of Surgery, proves the benefit of EVRF. The study concluded that “the failure rate was lowest for both EVRF and stripping (4.8%) at year one.  EVRF and foam sclerotherapy demonstrated faster recovery and less post-operative pain than EVLA (Laser) and stripping.

Treatment Costs
